KALAMAZOO, MICH.—The Carthage College women's lacrosse team squared-off against Kalamazoo College in the back-end of their two-game Michigan weekend on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Reds overcame a 7-1 deficit with 11:06 left in the first half to register a 14-12 victory over the Hornets.

Kalamazoo's 7-1 lead also included a 22-2 edge in shots at one point, before the Lady Reds fired back and concluded the contest with 29 shots compared to the Hornet's 31. Freshman
Margaux Giacotto and
Nicole Bowman commanded the Lady Reds' comeback with four goals apiece while
Jessie Gibson chipped in three along with a team-leading five draw controls.
Emily Lima's six ground balls and five caused turnovers paced Carthage.

Amy Sorge registered nine saves in the complete-game win, while her counterpart Gwen Davis stopped six shots for the Hornets.

Carthage's first win of 2019 gives them a 1-1, 0-0 CCIW record while Kalamazoo begins the season 0-1.

The tables turned in favor of the Lady Reds after their 7-1 deficit with 11:06 left in the first half as they outshot Kalamazoo 10-4 from that point until halftime. Gibson and Bowman each netted two goals for Carthage within that timeframe to help narrow their deficit to 8-6 at halftime.

It only got better as Carthage opened the second half with a 7-1 run en route to a 13-9 lead with 17:22 left. Giacotto notched all four of her goals in the contest throughout that run, which gave Carthage enough cushion to secure a 14-12 victory.

The Lady Reds will return to action on Saturday, February 23 against Hamline University in a neutral-site affair at the Augsburg College Field at 9:30 p.m.
