Carthage Drops Road Contest at Ripon

RIPON, Wis. — The Carthage College women's basketball team fell in a tight matchup at Ripon College Saturday afternoon 57-54 at Bob Gillespie Court.

Each team traded a pair of free throws to begin play, when the Lady Reds (2-3) took a 4-2 lead on a layup by Haley Ahr. After losing the lead to Ripon (2-0) Carthage reclaimed it once again on a score from Kelsey Coshun, and would hold it into the second quarter, up 13-12 after 10 minutes of play.

The two teams would continue to trade leads in the second, with Carthage coming out on top at the end of the period once more as Amanda Larson hit a layup to make it 26-22 at the halftime break.

Midway through the third, Autumn Kalis sunk one of her five made three-pointers on the day, giving the Lady Reds a 31-30 advantage, before entering the fourth quarter up nine, 42-33. While Carthage would hold the lead to start the final period of play, Ripon would inch back and take the lead with minutes remaining, sinking a late three-pointer and converting free throws to defeat the Lady Reds 57-54.

Carthage will return home next week and host Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Tuesday, November 26 at 7 p.m. in Tarble Arena.

Head Coach Tim Bernero

"The game didn't have much flow either way. We had some good runs of play but not enough, some of our problems today were self inflicted. We needed to make some plays in the fourth quarter on both ends, but just didn't get it done."
