David Snooks Scores Game-Winner to Lift Carthage Over No. 23 North Park

KENOSHA, Wis. — With just under eight minutes left to play, Noah Smeja crossed a ball in from the right side to David Snooks who punched in the game-winning goal to give the Carthage men's soccer team a 3-2 win over No. 23 North Park Wednesday night at Art Keller Field.

The Red Men (7-6, 2-1) jumped on the board early when Danny Eloyza sent a perfectly-placed free kick into the box, with Jerry Patino knocking it in.  The score would hold at 1-0 through the first half, before the Vikings (8-4, 2-1) evened it minutes into the second period.

Moments later, Eloyza lofted another well-placed kick into the box, this time finding a sliding Kevin Reilly who put the home team back in front. One again, however, the visitors would respond with a goal in the 76th minute.

With just under eight minutes left in regulation, Smeja crossed a ball deep in the right corner past the keeper's outstretched hand, where Snooks found the back of the net to give the Red Men their first win over a ranked opponent on the year.

Carthage hosts a challenging Wisconsin-Platteville team next, Friday night at 5 p.m. at Art Keller Field.

Head Coach Steve Domin

"It's easy to say this after a win, but this was a great college soccer match. North Park is simply so dangerous in the front third, so we had to alter the way we normally play for chunks of the game. I thought we were going to be up two or three goals in the first half, but we left a few setters out there and then started to think we were going to give them momentum they didn't deserve by us not finishing."

"We know better after years of battles with them, they simply are not going to go away at any moment. Credit to their school and their coaches who are really attracting a high level of student-athlete."

"We were extremely pleased with Danny Eloyza's play today, and connecting with Ivan and Jerry was fun to watch. They are wonderful players and more importantly great people. Can't say enough about Noah Smeja and David Snooks' finish with just under eight minutes to play, especially for younger guys coming off the bench and staying the course. Tonight was a real heavyweight match."
