Raiders and Pointers on the Horizon For Lady Reds

KENOSHA, WIS.—The final stages of the Carthage College women's soccer team's (1-1, 0-0 CCIW) four-game road stand will pit them at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m., and UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m.
 
ABOUT MILWAUKEE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING (0-2, 0-0 NACC)
 
The Raiders and Lady Reds opened their 2018 campaign with common opponents in Kalamazoo College and Calvin College. MSOE dropped a 3-1 decision to the Hornets on August 31 before being victim in a 1-0 score against Calvin on September 1. All scoring in MSOE's bout at Kalamazoo occurred in the second half as goalkeeper Abbie Lorenz allowed no goals and made five saves throughout the opening 45:00 for the Raiders. 
 
Goalkeeper Allison Lessila carries a 2.67 goals against average and a .500 save percentage over the last 135:00 of action for the Raiders. Sophomore midfielder Jerey Riffel scored the Raider's lone goal in the young 2018 campaign. Anchoring the Raiders defense is senior defender Shelby Namen, who was named to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches All-Central Region Second Team.
 
The Raiders were crowned 2017 NACC Regular Season Champions with a 12-9, 9-1 NACC mark. Rolf Zersen is in his 14th season as MSOE head women's soccer coach. The Lady Reds are 5-1 all-time against the Raiders.
 
ABOUT UW-STEVENS POINT (2-0, 0-0 WIAC)
 
The Pointers will face Carthage after kicking-off the season with a 2-1 victory over St. Olaf, and a 9-0 shutout of Lawrence University. Junior Maddy Hardyman will take four goals, one assist and nine points into UW-Stevens Point's showdown against Carthage. Eleven Pointers have collected at least one point so far in 2018. Olivia Mecham and Lexi Pawlowski each tallied a goalkeeping start for the Pointers this season.
 
Hardyman and senior defender Alexis Peterson are the lone returners who landed a spot on the 2017 All-WIAC Women's Soccer Team. UW-Stevens Point closed the 2017 season with a 9-8-2, 2-3-2 WIAC record, which ended with a 2-1 loss to UW-Stout in the WIAC Tournament. It also included a 1-0 loss to the Lady Reds.
 
Dawn Crow is in her fourth season as UW-Stevens Point head women's soccer coach. The Lady Reds are 3-1 all-time against the Pointers.

Carthage will open their home schedule on Wednesday, September 12 against Viterbo University (NAIA) at 5:00 p.m. They will conclude next week against #9 UW-La Crosse at home on Saturday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m.
