KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Lady Reds celebrated
Leanne Ulmer's 500th career victory Saturday night at Tarble Arena with their third straight win, defeating Augustana College in four sets, 3-1.
The win moves the Lady Reds to 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while improving to 11-5 on the year. Augustana falls to 9-8 on the season and to 0-2 in the CCIW. Prior to the match, Ulmer was presented a game ball for her 500th win, which came last weekend over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
For the match, the Lady Reds hit .208 in the win to the Vikings' .105, with Carthage having sets of .224, .326 and .571 in their three wins. Carthage dominated from the service line in the match, serving for seven aces and committing just two reception errors. In the decisive set, it was
Megan Dawrant who served 12-straight points, including a pair of aces, for the Lady Reds to turn a 12-6 lead into 24-6, allowing the Lady Reds to run away with the set.
Shannon Kebisek led the Lady Reds in the win, as the junior outside tied her career-high with 21 kills and added 12 digs. Two other Lady Reds, reached double-figures in kills as
Megan Behrendt had 13 and
Kaila Johanson had 11. Behrendt, along with
Laura de Rosales led Carthage with 20 digs, and Johanson was third on the team with 17 kills and
Ellie LeCount had 16 digs and a match-high 49 assists.
Katie Laio led Carthage at the net with six total blocks including two solo.
The women's volleyball team will hit the road for a non-conference match on Tuesday at Lake Forest before returning to CCIW play on Saturday at home against Carroll University. First serve Tuesday is set for 7:00 p.m.
