LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team won their fourth-straight match on Tuesday night in a five-set thriller, defeating Lake Forest College on the road, 3-2.
The win moves the Lady Reds to 12-7 on the year, while the Foresters fall to 8-11 with the loss.
An even match that saw both teams finish with 55 kill apiece, went back and forth the entire match through the first four sets with the Foresters taking sets one and three, while the Lady Reds evened the match in sets two and four. In the fifth set with the Lady Reds trailing 7-6, the Lady Reds went on a 3-0 lead and never turned back on their way to the 15-10 win in the decisive set.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kaila Johanson had the Lady Reds' best night offensively, registering a career-high 19 kills in the win, as she was on the receiving end of a majority of
Ellie LeCount's 46 assists. Behind Johanson,
Megan Behrendt had 13 kills and the reigning CCIW Offensive Player of the Week,
Shannon Kebisek, had 11 kills. Behrendt and LeCount led the Lady Reds iin the service game as well with three aces apiece.
Defensively, the Lady Reds had a great night, winning the battle at the net with nine blocks to the Foresters' two and recording the second most digs on the year with 94.
Katie Laio led Carthage in blocking with five, including a pair of solo blocks, followed by Behrendt with three total blocks and Johanson with two. Four Lady Reds were in double-digits in digs including Behrendt and
Laura de Rosales with 24 each, followed by Kebisek with 17 and LeCount with 15.
The Lady Reds will return to Tarble Arena for their next match on Friday, October 5th when Carthage hosts Carroll University at 7:00 p.m.
