KENOSHA, WIS.—The final leg of the Carthage College women's soccer team's five-game home swing pitted them against UW-Whitewater for a Wednesday-evening non-conference bout.
Joanne Stanfa's fourth goal of the season in the 26
th minute was enough to propel the Lady Reds to a 1-0 victory over UW-Whitewater.
Carthage held a 16-11 shots advantage over the Warhawks, which included an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Stanfa fired a career-high six shots while
Morgan Verbeten chipped in four and
Jacey Kent tallied three. UW-Whitewater goalkeeper Nina Yonan was there to stop seven of those shots, and
Sara Lieffrig registered five saves on the other end for the Lady Reds.
The victory sends Carthage to 5-2-2, 0-0-1 CCIW while the Warhawks drop to 6-4-1, 0-0-0 WIAC.

It took the Warhawks eight minutes to generate the game's first scoring opportunity when Payton DeLuga sailed a header wide off Anna Boyd's ensuing corner kick. Carthage responded with their first scoring chance in the 12
th minute when Kent fired a blocked shot shortly after she booted a corner.
The Lady Reds buried their next scoring chance in the 26
th minute when
Erin Otto fed a pass from 25 yards out on Warhawk goalkeeper Yonan's left to Stanfa in front of the net. Stanfa buried the one-time shot to give Carthage a 1-0 lead.
That was enough to keep UW-Whitewater on eggshells as Carthage outshot them 13-7 the remainder of the game. One infraction was assessed in the contest, a yellow card to Verbeten in the 84
th minute.
The Lady Reds will return to CCIW play at Elmhurst College on Saturday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m.
