Ulmer Gets 500th Win As Lady Reds Earn Saturday Sweep

AURORA, Ill. – The Carthage College Lady Reds rebounded from a Friday night loss with a pair of sweeps over Ripon College and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the Jim Coleman Invitational hosted by Aurora University, giving head coach Leanne Ulmer her 500th career win at Carthage.
 
With the pair of wins, the Lady Reds improve to 10-7 on the season, while Ripon falls to 5-10 and Oshkosh drops to 8-7.
 
Carthage 3, Ripon 0
The Lady Reds opened with a very strong performance in the first match of the day, hitting .333 in the win and recording 50 kills for the first time this season in a three-setter.  Carthage also won the battle from the service line, allowing one ace, and dominated at the net with five blocks to none.
 
Shannon Kebisek led Carthage in the opening match with a season-high 15 kills and a .371 attack, committing just two errors on 35 attempts.  The junior outside also had 11 digs in the win. 
 
Behind Kebsiek, Kaila Johanson had 14 kills with a .294 attack and Megan Behrendt had 12 kills and a .370 attack to round out the top kill-getters for Carthage.  Behrendt also registered 20 digs, just three behing Laura De Rosales, who had a match-high 23.  Ellie LeCount rounded out the Lady Reds offense with 40 assists in the win.
 
Carthage 3, UW-Oshkosh 0
Shannon Kebisek one-upped herself in the second match of the day, resetting her season-high with a match-high 16 kills in a three-set sweep that saw Carthage need just 34 total kills thanks to 21 attack errors by the Titans.  Shannon finished .457 hitting and didn't commit a single attack error, while serving a pair of aces.
 
In a match that saw Carthage serve for the third most aces on the season with 12, it was Ellie LeCount that shined from service line.  The junior setter broke her previous career-high of five and came within one of Bria Hailey's school record of eight, with seven aces in the win.  She also added 26 assists.
 
Laura De Rosales once again led the Lady Reds with 13 digs, followed by LeCount with 10.
 
Following the conclusion of both matches, Shannon Kebisek and Ellie LeCount were named to the Aurora University Jim Coleman Invitational All-Tournament Team.
 
Next up for the Lady Reds, Carthage will play five of their next six matches against CCIW teams, starting with Augustana College on Saturday, September 29th as part of the 2018 Homecoming festivities.  Frist serve for Carthage and Augie is set for 6:00 p.m. from Tarble Arena.
