KALAMAZOO, MICH.—The back-end of the Carthage College women's soccer team's two-game Michigan swing pitted them at Kalamazoo College for a Saturday-evening affair. The Lady Reds gave head coach
Ian Wilson his first collegiate coaching victory with a 1-0 advantage over the Hornets in a game that was delayed for nearly an hour in the 73
rd minute.
"That was a hard-fought team win," said Wilson following the victory. "We found a way to score. Blue collar and gritty defending helped secure the win.
Sara Lieffrig made some great saves to earn her first career shutout and win. I am very proud of the way the ladies bounced back from yesterday's game."
Kalamazoo peppered 14 shots as a team, but Lieffrig was there to stop eight of them in 90:00 of work in net for the Lady Reds. Hannah Wolfe made three saves in net for the Hornets. The Carthage defense held Libby Munoz, who registered 42 goals for Kalamazoo last season, to just one shot.

Taylor Stenmark sealed Kalamazoo's fate when she tallied her second career goal in the 54
th minute to propel Carthage to a 1-0 lead. Stenmark and
Anna McHatton paced the Lady Reds with two shots apiece en route to a team total of seven.
The Lady Reds improve to 1-1, 0-0 CCIW while Kalamazoo falls to 1-1, 0-0 MIAA.

Six of Lieffrig's saves occurred in the first half to keep the score 0-0 at intermission. The Lady Reds' lone goal of the contest occured in the 54
th minute when Stenmark put home a rebound from her own shot that hit the post off
Jacey Kent's ensuing corner kick to make the score 1-0. The Lady Reds and Kalamazoo were even in shots 4-4 in the second half.
The Lady Reds will continue their four-game road swing at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m.
