8/30/2018 6:43:00 PM

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's soccer team will open the 2018 season with four-straight road contests, which begins with a two-game Michigan tilt. First on the docket is Calvin College on Friday, August 31 at 4:30 p.m. (ET), followed by Kalamazoo College on Saturday, September 1 at 5:00 p.m. (ET).

Carthage got their first taste of game action in a scrimmage at Concordia University Chicago on August 28, where they registered a 2-1 victory. The Lady Reds will take 19 returners and 14 newcomers into opening weekend.

ABOUT CALVIN COLLEGE (0-0, 0-0 MIAA)

The Knights registered a 12-9, 9-7 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association mark in 2017, which ended with a 1-0 loss to Hope College in the MIAA Tournament Semifinal. Back for Calvin is three of their four double-digit point scorers from 2017, which includes leading scorer, sophomore Abby Koops (7g, 3a, 17pts.). Junior defenders Emily Van Vliet (2g, 8a, 12pts.) and Kali Mouw (3g, 5a, 11 pts.) round out that group.

Guarding the goal will be sophomore Amy Kliewar, who registered a .713 save percentage and a 1.38 goals against average while playing every minute for Calvin in 2017.

The Lady Reds will face Calvin for the first time in school history. The game will feature a pair of first-time head coaches as Ian Wilson (Carthage) and Emily Ottenhoff (Calvin) will make their debuts.

ABOUT KALAMAZOO COLLEGE (0-0, 0-0 MIAA)

The Hornets are fresh off an 11-8-1, 10-5-1 MIAA campaign in 2017, which left them outside the playoff picture.

Junior Libby Munoz, who finished tied for 33rd among NCAA Division III women's soccer players with 42 points (19g, 4a) last season, will be the player of focus. Munoz's nine game-winning goals last season landed her a NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Statistical National Championship. She landed a spot on the 2017 All-MIAA Women's Soccer First Team, and the 2017 United Soccer Coaches All-Central Region Second Team.

Sophomores Joy Hunziker and Josie Sibley finished tied for second on the team in scoring last season with eight points apiece. Junior Maddie Odom and sophomore Hannah Wolfe are expected to split time in goal for Kalamazoo this season.

Bryan Goyings will embark on his 11th season as Kalamazoo head women's soccer coach in 2018. The Hornets and Lady Reds will square-off for the first time ever.
