ELMHURST, Ill. – The Carthage College baseball team saw their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship hopes take a hit on Wednesday as the Red Men dropped a pair of games at Elmhurst College.
The pair of losses sends the Red Me to 24-8 on the season and to 11-5 in the CCIW, while the Bluejays move to 19-13 and 9-8 in the league.
Game 1: Elmhurst 7, Carthage 6
In the first game, Carthage jumped out to a 3-0 lead through 2.5 innings following first inning RBIs by

Ryan Dalton and a third inning RBI by
Nick Pierce.
The Bluejays answered in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs and took the lead for the first time win three runs in the fifth, ending starter
Ian Maxeiner day after 5.2 innings.
Carthage responded with two runs in the seventh to tie the game on RBIs by
Ryan Kramer and
Cody Phelps, and took a 6-5 in the top of the eighth on a
Myles Farley sac fly to score
Jake Mitchell.
Unfortunately the lead wouldn't stand as the Bluejays scored a pair in the bottom of the eighth off
Brian Polaski to steal the win from Carthage.
Game 2: Elmhurst 2, Carthage 1 (10 Inn.)
Kyle Damon turned in his best performance of the season in game two, however his eight innings went for none as the Red Men dropped game two in ten inning, 2-1.
Damon finished the 8.0 inning no decision allowing the Bluejays just two hits and striking out four on 101 pitches.
The Red Men were unable to capitalize early against Elmhurst, stranding three through the first two innings, both times having a pair on with less than two out. Carthage finally broke through in the third on a RBI single by Pierce to give the Red Men a 1-0 lead, scoring
Ryan Kramer.
Elmhurst drew even in the fifth as a bases loaded fielder's choice ground out scored the Bluejays run to tie the game.
Carthage looked to score what would have been a game-winning run in the seventh but
Colton Klein was thrown out trying to score from first on a double by Kramer, keeping the game tied at 1-1.
In the tenth, the Bluejays took advantage of a leadoff walk and following a sac bunt, Elmhurst delivered a two-out RBI single to complete the day's sweep, 2-1.
The Red Men will stay on the road for three more games this weekend as Carthage head to Millikin for a weekend series with the Big Blue. Carthage and Millikin will open with a doubleheader Saturday in Decatur with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
