KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team's 2018 home finale pitted them against University of Dubuque on Saturday. The Red Men eclipsed double-digit wins for the seventh time in program history with a 10-3 victory over the Spartans. The Red Men celebrated their six seniors in
Matt Curran,
Andy Meyers,
Canyon Smith,
Luke Seydel,
Jack DeVeny and
Andrew Krom prior to Saturday's bout.
Â
"Today was great as we celebrated the seniors and how they've started and finished together," said Red Men head lacrosse coach
David Neff. "All the guys being able to get into the game and being part of that was really important. Now we just got to go out and finish these last two CCIW games and hopefully get that third spot in the tournament."
Â
Dubuque goalie Kyle Mullins stopped 21 shots, but the Red Men's 45-12 edge in that department was too much for him to overcome. Mullins' counterpart
Zerik Rodriguez registered six saves for Carthage.
Â
The Red Men failed just one clear on the day en route to a 15-of-16 mark while the Spartans' six failed clears gave them a 12-of-18 figure. Carthage also held advantages in ground balls (28-17) and face-offs won (11-6).
Griffin Cleary powered Carthage's face-off efforts with an 11-16 mark.
Â
Andy Szun paced Carthage's offense with four goals on nine shots while
Ethan Flight followed with two goals and one assist for three points. Krom and Seydel each tallied a goal and an assist for a two-point game for the Red Men.
Liam O'Connor led the Carthage defense with three caused turnovers in the contest.
Â
The Red Men improve to 10-5, 2-2 CCIW while Dubuque falls to 7-8, 1-4 CCIW.

Red Men 10, Dubuque 3
Â
Carthage's 9-1 edge in shots within the opening 10:00 of the first quarter propelled them to a 4-0 lead, which provoked Dubuque head coach Kasey Burst to call a timeout at the 5:05 mark. The breather paid dividends, thanks to Michael Julius's goal at the 2:31 mark of the first quarter to narrow Carthage's lead to 4-1.
Â
The Winnipeg connection in Szun and
Colin Poitras each notched a second-quarter goal for Carthage to push their lead to 6-1 at halftime. The Red Men's 14-1 edge in shots along with Dubuque's seven turnovers in the third quarter pushed the score to 9-1. Morgan, Seydel and Szun each contributed a goal for Carthage in the third frame. The Spartans closed the gap with a pair of fourth-quarter goals, but couldn't push the envelope in a 10-3 loss to Carthage.

The Red Men will face Carroll University (Wis.) in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m.
