KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College women's lacrosse team snapped their two-game College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin losing streak and snapped Carroll University's season-long 13-game win streak on Thursday, defeating the Pioneers at Art Keller Field, 13-7.
The win moves the Lady Reds to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in the CCIW, while the Pioneers fall to 13-1 and 3-1 in the league.
The heated affair that had a combined 12 yellow cards in the game never saw Carthage trail and led the whole way after taking a 3-2 lead in the 17
th minute on
Rachel Mussell's first goal of the game. Carthage eventually grabbed command of the game with 4-1 run to go into the half up three, 6-3.
After allowing a goal to the Pioneers in the first minute of the second half, Carthage closed the half on a 7-3 run to cruise to the six-goal victory.
Nicole Bowman led all players in the game with five goals, tying her career-high. Mussell finished along with
India Soodan with two goals. Rounding out the Lady Reds scorers were
Megan McNamara,
Greigh Hoeft,
Elena Herman and
Jessie Gibson with one goal each. McNamara also added four assists to lead all players in the game.
Maggie Allen made nine saves in the win, earning her tenth win for the second season in a row.
The Lady Reds will look to stay in the postseason hunt when they return to action on Saturday against Augustana College. Carthage will travel to Rock Island, Illinois for their second game of the regular season at 2:00 p.m.
