KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team opened their three-game homestand against Augustana College (Ill.) on Tuesday.
Zerik Rodriguez's 14 saves, along with four goals each from
Luke Seydel and
Andy Szun propelled the Red Men to a 15-6 victory over Augustana. Szun added two assists to that total to lead all scorers with six points.Â

"It was our best game since spring break," said Red Men head lacrosse coach
David Neff. "I thought the guys rebounded well after Illinois Wesleyan. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I think Zerik (Rodriguez) had a pretty big game statistically.
Matt Curran was a huge help on offense today. Getting those two guys to step up was huge."

Curran,
Colin Poitras and
Brody Ilstrup each registered two goals and one assist to round out the Red Men multiple-point scorers in the contest. Carthage also converted on three man-up goals in the game.

Joe Poremba registered four of Carthage's 11 caused turnovers in the contest.
Jack DeVeny and
Tanner Jones each chipped in two caused turnovers for the Red Men. As a team, the Red Men held advantages over Augustana in shots (39-33), shots on goal (26-23), saves (17-11), and ground balls (31-20). Â Â

The Red Men improve to 9-4, 1-1 CCIW while the Vikings fall to 7-5, 2-1 CCIW.

Augustana opened the contest with a 5-0 edge in shots at the 12:25 mark of the first quarter, but the Red Men came back with an 11-1 advantage the remainder of the frame. It resulted in a 2-1 Red Men lead after the first quarter behind goals from
Matt Curran and
Andy Szun. Jason Van Dick converted on Augustana's lone shot within that run to cut their deficit to 2-1 at the 2:27 mark of the first quarter.

The Vikings responded with two goals en route to a short-lived 3-2 lead at the 10:52 mark of the second quarter. The Winnipeg connection in
Andy Szun and
Colin Poitras engineered a 5-0 run to close the half with a pair of goals each to propel Carthage to a 7-3 halftime lead.

Carthage committed just one turnover throughout the third quarter while
Zerik Rodriguez made four saves.
Luke Seydel added two goals for Carthage in the frame, which helped engineer their 3-1 frame en route to a 10-4 lead heading into the final 15:00.

The Vikings out shot Carthage 10-7 in the fourth quarter, but
Zerik Rodriguez stopped seven of those shots to secure a 15-6 victory for the Red Men.

Rodriguez played 57:14 in net, while
William Gast allowed one goal and made three saves over 2:46 for the Red Men.

Carthage will host Elmhurst College on Thursday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m.
