SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Carthage College Lady Reds dropped a game for the first time in 2018, falling in their final game in Tennessee to Sewanee, The University of the South, 17-4.
The loss drops the women's lacrosse team to 4-1 on the season, while Sewanee improves to 5-1.
The Lady Reds were limited to just 12 shots in the game with nine coming on goal, as a pesky Tigers defense limited Carthage opportunities. Carthage committed 34 total turnovers, 24 of which were caused by the Tigers, and were successful on only 13-of-26 clearance opportunities.
Carthage took a 2-1 lead five minutes into the game as
Nicole Bowman and
Rachel Mussell scored a pair of goals 42 seconds apart but from there on it was all Tigers. Sewanee finished the half on an 11-1 run to take a 12-3 lead into the half.
Savanna Giesler scored Carthage's third goal.
In the second half,
Jessie Gibson scored her first goal of the match, but the Lady Reds were outscored 5-1 in the half as the Tigers snapped Carthage's perfect start to the season.
The Lady Reds will finish their spring break on Thursday in Kentucky when they take on Centre College at 5:00 p.m. EST.
