SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Carthage College women's lacrosse team stayed perfect on the season with a win in their spring break opener, defeating Ohio Northern University on Monday afternoon, 18-12.
With the win, the Lady Reds improve to 4-0 for the first time in program history to start a season, while loss drops the Polar Bears to 2-1.
After falling behind 1-0 less than two minutes in, the Lady Reds scored three straight to take a 3-1 lead with 24:32 remaining in the half. From there, the Lady Reds never trailed of let the Polar Bears back into the game, taking a 9-6 lead into the half and doubling it in the second half for the 18-12 win.
Rachel Mussell led all scorers with six goals, posting a hat-trick in each half to lead the Lady Reds in the win.
Greigh Hoeft and
Jessie Gibson each scored three goals, and
Nicole Bowman,
India Soodan and
Bryanna Barrera all netted a pair. Mussell also led the Lady Reds with four assists to give her a career-high ten points, tying her for third most in a game in Carthage history.
In goal,
Maggie Allen also had a stellar performance, tying
Ali Gorman for the most saves in a game in program history with 20 saves.
The Lady Reds will return to action in Sewanee on Tuesday with a showdown with hosts, Sewanee: the University of the South at 6:00 p.m.
