KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Lady Reds turned in one of their most impressive wins of the season on Saturday at Art Keller Field, as the women's lacrosse team routed Trine University, 20-2.
The Lady Reds improve to 6-3 on the season with the win, while Trine drops to 2-5 on the year.
Carthage came out on fire in the game, scoring five goals in the opening 6:09 to jump out to what would prove to be an insurmountable lead. Trine scored a pair of goals in the opening 30 minutes, but the Lady Reds closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 15-2 lead into the half.
In the second half, the Lady Reds'
Amy Sorge posted a shutout in the second half, while the Lady Reds added five more goals to cruise to victory.
Jesse Gibson and
Rachel Mussell each tallied four goals to lead the Lady Reds in the win, while
Nicole Bowman netted a hat-trick, and
India Soodan,
Elena Herman,
Kristen Hairston and
Savanna Giesler each had a pair of goals.
Bryanna Barrera capped off the scoring with one of her own.
Megan McNamara and
Alexa VanOrd each had four assists to lead Carthage in the category and McNamara had five ground balls to lead everyone in the game.
Maggie Allen earned the win in goal with three first half saves and Sorge finished the victory off with four second half saves in her Carthage debut.
The Lady Reds will have a quick turn around for their next game tomorrow, on Sunday, March 25th as the Lady Reds welcome Saint Mary's College from Indiana to Art Keller Field. Game time for tomorrow is set for 1:00 p.m.
