KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College men's volleyball dominated the Greenville University Panthers on Saturday at Tarble Arena, as the Red Men won in a sweep, 25-11, 25-16, 25-20.
The win moves the #2 Red Men to 19-1 overall and to 6-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League, while the Panthers fall to 6-15 and 1-6 in the league.
Evan Walsh set the tone for the Red Men, as he served Carthage to a 12-0 lead in the first set. From there, the Red Men never looked back with a as Carthage hit .348 in the first set, followed by .448 in the second and .444 in the third for a .418 attack in the match.
Carthage dominated the team statistics with 44 kills to the Panthers 26, courtesy of 40 assists to just 25 for Greenville. The Red Men also dominated defensively, owning the net 13-2 in blocks and grabbing 34 digs to 21 for the Panthers.
Evan Walsh led all players with 13 kills in the win and hit .476 in the win. Also joining in double figures were
Zach Lillig and
Kelvin Rivera with 11 and ten kills respectively.
Matt Reinsel led the Red Men with 39 assists in the win.
In a strong defensive effort, Lillig had ten total blocks including one solo. Reinsel was next in line with five to help the Red Men front.
Kelvin Rivera led Carthage with nine digs.
The Red Men will return to action on Wednesday as Carthage takes on the Milwaukee School of Engineering for senior night. First serve from Tarble is set for 7:00 p.m.
