Red Men Sweep MSOE On Senior Night, 3-0

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Red Men celebrated the Senior Night of Max Bongratz, Kevin Landgraf and Zach Lillig in style at Art Keller Field, as the men's volleyball team swept the Milwaukee School of Engineering for the second time this season, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23.

The win moves the Red Men to 20-1 and gives Carthage their ninth consecutive 20-win season.  MSOE falls to 12-7 with the loss.

"It's always nice to get a win on Senior Night and I am happy for Kevin, Max and Zach," said head coach LJ Marx following the win.  "I think we handled some adversity tonight well when things were not going our way especially in the first and third set, but the way we responded was good.   There were a number of things we did well tonight but still need to clean some parts up before playing a very good Mount St. Joseph team next weekend."

Despite hitting just .111 in the first set to MSOE's .188, the Red Men pulled out the first set in which they were aided by 13 total attack and service errors.  Carthage then cleaned things up in the second set with a .417 attack and finished the third with a .276 to give Carthage a .263 attack for the match to the Engineers' .193.  The Red Men won the serve receive battle as well, as Carthage landed seven aces to MSOE's two and took advantage of 15 MSOE service errors.

Individually, the reigning MCVL Offensive Player of the Week, Kelvin Rivera, had one of his best matches of the season with 12 kills and a .579 hitting percentage.  Rivera also turned in one of the best defensive nights in the win, recording a career-high five blocks against the Engineers.  Rounding out his big night, Kelvin ripped three aces to tie for the match-high with Kevin Landgraf.

Matt Reinsel finished with 29 assists in the win and Evan Walsh led the Red Men with nine digs followed by Tony Allen with seven.

The Red Men will return to action nine days from now with a pair of Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League matches to close out the 2018 regular season.  Carthage will head to southwestern Ohio to finish their season with contests at Mount St. Joseph University on Friday, April 6th at 7:00 p.m. and Wittenberg University on Saturday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m.  Both times listed are Eastern Standard.
