ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Carthage College men's volleyball took care of business on Saturday afternoon in Rock Island, as the Red Men defeated Augustana College on the road in a sweep, 3-0 [25-22, 25-22, 25-12].
The win pushes the Red Men to 17-1 and to 4-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League, while the Vikings fall to 7-15 and 1-4 in the league.
The Red Men hit .300 for the match and after falling behind early in the first set, fought back with hitting percentages of .312, .207 and a dominant .421 to close the match out. Carthage won the team statistical battle on the day, with a 36-27 edge in kills, 5-4 in aces, 35-23 in assists, 8-2 in blocks and 40-29 in digs.
Matt Reinsel dished out 33 assists in the win with nine coming from the arm of
Kai Cromwell, whom led all players in the win.
Parker Connolly was second on the team with eight and
Kelvin Rivera and
Evan Walsh each had seven. Rivera also led the Red Men with a .429 hitting percentage.
Eric Winter led Carthage defensively at the net, matching a career-high with five blocks.
Kai Cromwell led all players as well with a career-high 14 digs.
Carthage will look to continue their winning ways when they return to Tarble Arena next weekend for a pair of MCVL matchups. The Red Men will open the weekend on Friday with Fontbonne University at 7:00 p.m. and will face Greenville University at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
