RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Carthage College men's volleyball team put together a complete performance Wednesday night in a nationally ranked matchup, as the #3 Red Men dominated the #6 Stars of Dominican University in a sweep [25-18, 25-22, 25-16].
With the win, the Red Men stay undefeated on the season at 11-0, while Carthage drops Dominican to 6-3.
"Really happy with tonight's win," said LJ Marx after the win. "Tonight we put together a complete match from the first point to the final point. After a good first set we struggled a bit making defensive adjustments in the second, and actually trailed most of the second set, but recovered nicely. From that we carried the momentum into the third and did a great job closing out the match."
Carthage hit a season-best .392 in the win with attack percentages of .480, .370 and .318 in sets one through three respectively, while limiting the Stars to .200, .192 and .034 for a .138 match percentage. The Red Men also dominated in each statistical category, with a 40-29 advantage in kills, 38-26 in assists, 8-3 in service aces, 10-4 at the net in blocks and 31-19 in digs.
Individually on the offensive side of the net,
Mason Moore led the Red Men with 11 kills followed by
Evan Walsh with 10 and
Matt Slivinski with seven, while
Matt Reinsel distributed the ball around evenly on the way to his match-high 35 assists. Moore also led the Red Men with a .500 hitting percentage, as the sophomore outside finished his 11 kills on 18 attempts, while committing just two errors. For the match the Red Men had just 11 attack errors.
Defensively, Slivinski led the Red Men with eight digs and
Zach Lillig led Carthage at the net that had a part of six of the Red Men's ten blocks to lead the way.
Rounding out the individual leaders for the Red Men,
Max Bongratz had a season-high four aces from the service line for a match-high.
Next up for the Red Men, Carthage will head to Milwaukee for their final non-conference matchup before the MCVL season begins, as the Red Men will face the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, February 17
th at 10:00 a.m.
