Red Men Dominate Competition Saturday With A Pair Of 8-1 Victories

RACINE, Wis. – The Carthage College men's tennis team opened their home indoor season in impressive fashion Saturday, as the Red Men earned a pair of convincing 8-1 victories at the Racine Tennis Club over Lake Forest College and Edgewood College.
 
The pair of wins move the Red Men to 3-1 on the season, while Lake Forest falls to 3-1 after going 1-1 on the day and Edgewood falls to 1-4 with a pair of losses.
 
Carthage opened the day by taking two-of-three in the doubles competition as Herman Abban and Daniel Moore won the number one doubles match and Matt Krzewinski and Fordy Leipold handled business in the number three doubles match.
 
Carthage went on to sweep the singles competition with Abban, Moore, Lukasz Jaworski, John Nykyforuk and Oscar Irazoque winning in straight sets and Matt Krzewinski taking a win after his opponent retired in the first set.

In the afternoon match, the Red Men jumped on Edgewood early with a sweep of the doubles action.  For Carthage, Jaworski and Nykyforuk stepped into the number one slot for the first time this season and picked up a win.  Matt Krzewinski and Fordy Leipold won the number two doubles and Austin Sternbach and Kevin Dunn completed the doubles action with a win.
 
In the singles action, the Red Men quintet of Abban, Moore, Irazoque, Dunn and Gdaniec picked up wins to closeout the day's action.

The Red Men will return to action, next time at the Eastside Tennis and Fitness Club in Kenosha, on Sunday, February 18th with a pair of matches against the College of Wooster and Concordia University Wisconsin.  Action is set to start next Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
