Women's Volleyball Moves To 3-0 In CCIW With Win Over Carroll

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team stayed undefeated in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin on Friday night, defeating the Pioneers of Carroll University, 3-0.

The win improves the Lady Reds to 3-0 in the CCIW and to 13-7 overall, while the Pioneers fall to 14-6 and 2-1 in the league.

After taking the first set in dominant fashion, 25-14, the Lady Reds battled back to win the second after facing set point, 26-24, and held on after building a big lead in the third to win the match, 28-26.  Carthage edged out Carroll, hitting .268 to .216 in the match, but the Lady Reds owned the serve-receive aspect with seven aces to just one for Carroll, while the Lady Reds finished with 59-44 edge in kills over the Pioneers.

Megan Behrendt was a force offensively in the win, hitting a season-best .474 in the win, with a match-high 19 kills and just one error on the night.  Shannon Kebisek was the other offensive power in the win, finishing as the only other Lady Red in double figures with 17 kills.  Ellie LeCount paced the offense with 41 assists and a pair of aces, tying Laura de Rosales for the team lead from the service line.

De Rosales led the Lady Reds with 18 digs in the win and Kaila Johanson had ten.

The Lady Reds will return to action on Saturday when they make the short trip to North Chicago to face North Park University.  First serve at NPU is set for 7:00 p.m.
