Women's Volleyball Defeats UW-Stevens Point in Five, 3-2

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team made it nine-straight wins on Friday night as the Lady Reds topped the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Points in five sets at the Elmhurst College Volleyball Tournament opener, 3-2.
 
The win moves the Lady Reds to 17-7 overall on the year, while the Pointers falls to 16-11 with their second-straight loss.
 
The Lady Reds and the Pointers exchanged wins through every set with the Lady Reds earning the match victory with wins in the first, third and fifth sets.  Carthage out hit UWSP .135 to .124 with 66 kills to 60 for the Pointers, but the Lady Reds dominated the fifth and final set with a .294 attack to .043 with the Lady Reds committing just two fifth set errors to the Pointers' six.
 
Megan Behrendt led the Lady Reds in kills as the junior outside hitter recorded a career-high 24 kills in the win to lead all players in the match, shattering her previous mark of 19 in the win.  Shannon Kebisek was second on the team with 13 kills and Ellie LeCount had 50 assists for the second time in 2018.
 
Sarah Udoni and Katie Laio led the Carthage block at the net with four rejections and LeCount and Linda Morton each had three.  Four Lady Reds reached double figures in digs in the win, with Laura de Rosales leading Carthage with 18, followed by Behrendt with 16, Kebisek with 13 and Abigail McGowan with 11.
 
The Lady Reds will conclude action in their weekend at Elmhurst on Saturday morning when Carthage takes on #1 Calvin College.  First serve tomorrow is set for 10:00 a.m.
