Women's Volleyball Falls To #1 Calvin In Four Sets, 3-1

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Carthage College dropped their first match in nearly a month on Saturday morning, as the Lady Reds volleyball team fell to the number-one team in the nation, Calvin College, 3-1.
 
The loss sends the Lady Reds to 17-8 in 2018, while the Knights improve to 22-1 on the year.
 
Despite outhitting the Knights in sets one and three, the Lady Reds were outhit for the match .231 to .173 with Calvin recording 48 kills and 21 attack errors, while Carthage had 41 kills and 22 errors.  Carthage dropped the first two sets before winning the third behind their best set of the match, hitting .314 with a match-high 15 kills in the set.
 
Megan Behrendt led the Lady Reds with 16 kills in the loss followed by Linda Morton with ten, while Ellie LeCount dished out 27 assists.  From the service line, Behrendt was a force as the junior snapped off five service aces, one off her career-high.
 
Laura de Rosales turned in her seventh 20-plus dig match of the season, as the junior libero picked up 20 digs to lead all players in the match.  Behrendt, along with Katie Laio and Linda Morton, led the Carthage block at the net with three apiece.
 
Carthage will return to action in the CCIW for the second-to-last conference match of the season when the Lady Reds travel to Wheaton College to take on the Thunder, Tuesday, October 23rd in Wheaton, Illinois.  Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
