Lady Reds Take Care Of Business With Sweep At Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Carthage College Lady Reds recorded their fourth sweep of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin competition on Wednesday night, defeating the Elmhurst College Bluejays on the road, 3-0.
 
The win moves the Lady Reds to 5-0 in the CCIW and to 15-7 overall, while the Bluejays fall to 9-11 and 2-4 in conference.
 
Carthage opened the match with a .400 hitting performance in the first set and didn't look back as the Lady Reds took the first and second sets, 25-15, 25-19.  In the third set, the Lady Reds claimed the match after coming from behind, late in the set, to take the match in three with a 26-24 third set win.
 
Ellie LeCount dished out a match-high 40 assists in the three-set win, with Kaila Johanson and Megan Behrendt leading the Lady Reds attack with 13 kills and 12 kills respectively.
 
The Lady Reds also hit .350 for the match with just eight attack errors, while the Bluejays struggled, committing 20 attack errors on their way to a .165 attack in the loss.
 
Defensively, the Lady Reds finished with four blocks as a team with Katie Laio, Andrea Kozak and Behrendt each having a hand in two.  A pair of Lady Reds were also in double figures in digs to help the Carthage defense, with Johanson leading the team with 13 digs and Shannon Kebisek picking up 12.
 
With the upcoming weekend off for the Lady Reds, Carthage will return to Tarble Arena for their next match when they host North Central College on Tuesday, October 16th at 7:00 p.m.
