Lady Reds and Cardinals Settle For 2-2 Draw

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's soccer team hosted North Central College (Ill.) for the first-of-six CCIW contests to close the 2018 regular season. Libby Snyder registered a pair of goals for the Lady Reds, but it wasn't enough to secure a win as both teams battled to a 2-2 tie (2OT). This gives Carthage three ties in 2018, the most since they capped the 2012 campaign with four.

Carthage peppered the Cardinals for six shots in the first half before they doubled that figure in the second half with 12 en route to a 20-14 advantage in the game after both overtimes. North Central goalkeeper Gretchen Frantz registered six saves over 110:00 while Lady Reds net-minder Sara Lieffrig stopped six shots in a complete-game effort.

The Lady Reds exit Wednesday with a 6-4-3, 0-1-2 CCIW mark while North Central sports a 5-7-1, 1-3-1 CCIW record.

Lexi Dimovski took advantage of a wide-open net from 40 yards out in the 20th minute, where she fired a ground-ball shot to give North Central a 1-0 lead. That was enough to keep the Lady Reds on eggshells the remainder of the first half as they mustered just one shot compared to North Central's four.

The Lady Reds came back with a 12-6 shots advantage in the second half. Carthage's seventh shot of that frame crossed the goal line courtesy of Libby Snyder in the 76th minute to tie the game 1-1. Erin Otto picked up her second assist of the season on the play.

The Lady Reds scored as the rain rapidly fell in the 83rd minute. Snyder picked up her career-high second goal of the game off a feed from Morgan Verbeten, which gave Carthage a 2-1 edge. The lead was short-lived as Dimovski notched her sixth goal of the season for North Central in the 85th minute to knot the game 2-2.

Carthage held a 2-1 edge in shots throughout both overtime periods to keep the score 2-2.

No infractions were assessed in the contest.

The Lady Reds will host Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 13 at 5:00 p.m.
