Lady Reds Notch First Shutout of 2017 in a 3-0 Victory Over Titans

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's soccer team made the 113-mile trek north to face UW-Oshkosh in a non-conference affair Wednesday evening. Goals from Danielle Noverini, Maggie Washelesky and Samantha Sisto helped the Lady Reds secure a 3-0 victory, and their first shutout of 2017.

Carthage more than doubled the Titans' shot total with a 17-9 advantage, with 14 of those on target en route to a .824 percentage. Washelesky and Otto each contributed four shots on goal for the Lady Reds.

The victory bumps Carthage's record to 4-2, 0-0 CCIW while UW-Oshkosh falls to 1-3-1, 0-0 WIAC.

"It was nice to get a win on the road and continue to build confidence," said head women's soccer coach Sara Meyer. "In the second half, we came out with a spark and played our style which led to the possession we've been working on. It's always great to see a few players find the back of the net."

Lady Reds 3, UW-Oshkosh 0

After UW-Oshkosh opened the contest with a corner kick opportunity in the second minute, Carthage came back down the field and converted their first shot of the game. Noverini did the honors in the third minute when she booted a ball from 18 yards out that was too high for Titans goalkeeper Jessica Galason to handle, which gave the Lady Reds a 1-0 lead. The goal was Noverini's first of the season.

The Lady Reds proceeded to outshoot UW-Oshkosh 8-4 the remainder of the first half to keep the score 1-0. The Titans made the goalkeeper change in favor of Madelyn Runyon for the second half, but that didn't matter as Carthage found the back of the net on two of their seven shots on goal in the frame.

Maggie Washelesky widened the margin to 2-0 in the 57th minute with her third goal of the season off a shot 20 yards in front of Runyon. Talia Jaramillo tallied her first assist of 2017 on the play. Samantha Sisto registered her first goal of the season with a shot 15 yards out in the 68th minute to widen the Lady Reds' cushion to 3-0, thanks to a perfect feed from Joanne Stanfa on the play.

Lady Reds goalkeeper Emily Furmanek, who got her fourth start of the season, registered one save in the complete-game effort. Galason and Runyon, who each saw 45:00 of action, collectively tallied 11 saves for UW-Oshkosh.

Carthage will return to Art Keller Field on Sunday, September 17 against Aurora University at 1:00 p.m.
