Lady Reds Close Out Non-Conference With Win Over Augsburg, 17-8

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Lady Reds won their third straight and moved to 5-0 at Art Keller Field this season with a strong performance that saw the women's lacrosse team knock off Augsburg College on Sunday, 17-8.

The win closes out the Lady Reds' non-conference schedule at 7-3 and moves Carthage to 8-3 overall in 2017, while Augsburg falls to 9-4.

"We pushed the fast break early allowing us to find a good balance between the fast break and settling into our offense while at the same time keeping Augsburg on their toes," said head coach Lauren Hein.  "Our ability to push the tempo and share the ball was the reason we had seven different goal scorers today! Maggie Allen again made some great saves and defense came up with some incredible stops… Also, our clears were on!  Our defense and Maggie found the open middies and attackers to flip the field and pairing that with the ability to win a majority of the draws it was a key to our success."

Carthage never trailed as the Lady Reds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening six minutes of regulation that included a pair of goals from Rachel Mussell.

Mussell led the Lady Reds in the win with her second six-goal game of the season.  Kendell Santin was second on the team with four goals and Maddie Griffin and Greigh Hoeft each had a pair.  Bryanna Barrera, Nicole Bowman and Mackenzie Day finished the scoring with one goal apiece.

Carthage also won most of the statistical battles on Sunday, as the Lady Reds earned a 39-15 advantage in shots, 31-20 edge on ground balls, 17-10 difference on draws and forced Augsburg into 28 turnovers to just 19 for Carthage.

Maggie Allen earned the win in goal, making three saves and snagging one ground ball.

The Lady Reds will now look to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin slate for the final five games of the regular season, beginning with Carroll University on Wednesday in Waukesha at 7:00 p.m.
