Red Men Complete Sweep Of Millikin Sunday, 14-2

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Red Men completed a three-game series sweep of the Millikin University baseball team on Sunday, as for the third time over the weekend the Red Men won in seven innings at Augie Schmidt Field, defeating the Big Blue, 14-2.

The win moves the Red Men to 12-9 and 5-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while Millikin falls to 2-6 in the league and 13-8 overall.

Junior Kevin Tibor pitched the third straight complete game for the Red Men and improved to 6-0 in his first year at Carthage.   Tibor found his way out of multiple jams on the day as Millikin touched him up for nine hits but was able to make the Big Blue strand seven in the game including a pair of bases loaded jams in the fifth and sixth, only allowing one run after the third inning.

Tibor ended the day allowing just the two runs while striking out four in the win and offering just one free pass when he hit one batter.

The Carthage bats continued to stay hot from Saturday, as the Red Men knocked Jacob Hennessy out of the game after just one inning of work.  Hennessy took the loss and fell to 0-1 after allowing four runs, one of which was earned, on four first inning hits.

Every starter for the Red Men had a hit in the win with Jordan Wiegold and Nick Pierce each having three-hit games, and Jared Knoespel and Zach Wade with two-hit games.

On the day, Wiegold finished 3-3 with a walk, two doubles and the biggest hit of the game, a two-out grand slam to left field in the fifth inning to put Carthage up 14-1.

Carthage finished with five extra base hits as a team and tallied 15 hits overall to cap a weekend that the Red Men outscored Millikin 37-5 behind three complete games from their pitchers.

The Red Men will return to action on Tuesday, April 11th when Carthage travels to Wheaton College for a game at 6:00 p.m.
