Women's Lacrosse Opens CCIW Play With 20-1 Win Over Elmhurst

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Lady Reds opened their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season on Saturday at Art Keller Field with and impressive win by the women's lacrosse team, dismantling the Bluejays of Elmhurst College, 20-1.
Ā
The win moves Carthage to 7-3 on the season and to 1-0 in the CCIW, while Elmhurst falls to 1-9 overall and 0-1 in the CCIW.
Ā
On the win to open the CCIW, head coach Lauren Hein said, "It feels great! Most of our goals today came off assists and I consider that a team win! Our defense played very aggressive making it hard for Elmhurst.Ā  Maggie had some great saves and offense took care of the ball once we had the lead."
Ā
Senior Mackenzie Day led the Lady Reds with five goals in the win including a pair within the first two-minutes of the contest to open things up for Carthage.Ā  Nicole Bowman was second on the team with four goals, followed by Maddie Griffin and Bryanna Barrera with a hat-trick each, Rachel Mussell with two and Kendell Santin, Maddie Palmerson and Kristen Hairston with one apiece.
Ā
Maddie Griffin also added five assists to lead all players and her eight total points and 12 ground balls were also game-highs.Ā
Ā
As a team, the Lady Reds outshot the Elmhurst 37-7 and converted on four-of-five free position opportunities.Ā
Ā
The Lady Reds also dominated the draw circle, with 17 controlled draws to the Bluejays six.
Ā
Junior goalkeeper Maggie Allen made four saves in her seventh win of the season, thanks in larger part to her defensive line of Emily Lima, Katelyn Daly and Mackenzie White, and midfielder Heather Martin.
Ā
Carthage will look to continue their winning ways on Sunday as they go for three-straight at 11:00 a.m. when the Lady Reds host Augsburg College.
