ELMHURST, ILL.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team faced Elmhurst College in a mid-week road game on Tuesday night.
Andy Szun's second five-goal game of the season propelled the Red Men to an 11-5 victory over the Bluejays. Szun finished the game with five goals and one assist on 10 shots, which also paced Carthage.

The Red Men outshot Elmhurst 21-16 in the contest while also holding a 30-20 advantage in ground balls. Â
Andy Meyers won 8-of-16 face-offs in the game.

The victory ups Carthage's overall record to 10-3, 3-0 CCIW while Elmhurst falls to 5-7, 1-1 CCIW. Carthage's 10 wins on the season is the most among CCIW schools through Tuesday night.

Reigning CCIW Offensive Player of the Week Mac Harden set the tone with a goal at the 7:27 mark of the first quarter to give Elmhurst a 1-0 lead. Szun knotted the game at one goal a piece with 3:30 left in the first quarter before a pair of Tyler Funderburk goals gave Elmhurst a 3-1 cushion with 00:47 remaining in the frame.

That was the ignition Carthage needed as they proceeded to outshoot Elmhurst 12-1 the remainder of the first half to cruise to a 7-3 lead at intermission. Szun and
Andrew Krom generated Carthage's 6-0 run with a pair of goals each. The Red Men committed only one turnover compared to Elmhurst's six in that time span.

The Red Men won each the third and fourth quarters 2-1 to secure an 11-5 victory over Elmhurst.

Carthage held Harden to only one point in the contest. The Red Men committed two penalties for 1:30 while Elmhurst was penalized five times for 4:00, which resulted in one man-up goal for both teams.

Carthage will return to action on Saturday, April 15 when they host Whittier College at 12:00 p.m., and North Central College (Ill.) at 7:00 p.m.
