Lady Reds Comeback Falls Short Against Whitman, 13-10

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Carthage College Lady Reds dropped a close game on Saturday, as a late comeback fell short against Whitman College in Oregon, 13-10.

The loss drops the Lady Reds to 5-3 on the season, while the Blues improved to 6-5 on the season.

Mackenzie Day tied for a game-high with four goals to lead the Lady Reds.  Rachel Mussell added a hat trick as well, as Nicole Bowman, Maddie Griffin and Greigh Hoeft each added one apiece.

An early lead after Day's first goal of the afternoon was quickly erased as a 3-0 run swung the score in favor of the Blues, 3-1.

A pair of goals by Griffin and Hoeft before the break cut the deficit to 4-3, however two Whitman goals sent the Lady Reds into the half down 6-3.

Whitman carried the momentum into the second half, scoring a third straight goal to go up 7-3 on the Lady Reds.

Whitman pushed their lead to as many as five at 10-5 before the Lady Reds began to mount a comeback.  Carthage closed on a 5-3 run to cut the Blues lead to 13-10 but the Lady Reds ran out of time as their offense was finding a rhythm in the loss.

Next up for the Lady Reds, Carthage returns to Kenosha to open a three-game home stand beginning Wednesday, March 28th as they host Concordia University Chicago at 6:00 p.m.
