TUCSON, Ariz. – The Carthage College baseball team won their third straight game Thursday, as the Red Men took care of Grinnell College handedly in a 13-1 win.

The win moves the Red Men to 5-6 on the season, while the loss drops the Pioneers to 5-5.

Ryan Rodgers gave the Red Men an early 2-0 lead with a pair of RBIs on a third inning triple. It proved to be more than enough for starter
Joe Nelson, who despite allowing 11 hits over 4.1 innings allowing just one run as he forced the Pioneers to leave seven stranded.

Carthage then opened it up in the top of the fifth with four runs, three of which were unearned, to take a 6-1 lead. Grinnell ended up making five errors total in their loss.

Nelson was lifted with one out and the bases loaded for
Jonathan Uba who got the first batter he faced to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the jam.

Carthage would go on to add two more in the sixth and five in the seventh before the game was called after seven, with the Red Men leading 13-1.

At the dish,
Matt Rave led the Red Men as he went 4-5 with three RBIs and scoring twice. Rave was one of four Red Men to record multi-hit games as
Drew Korosic,
Jared Knoespel and
Zach Wade each had two.

The Red Men will play their final spring break game on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Tucson, as Carthage will face Hamline University for the second time in the desert.
