TUCSON, Ariz. – The Carthage College Red Men finished their spring break trip on a high note, overcoming an early four-run deficit to defeat the Hamline University Pipers, 9-4.

The win extends the Red Men's current streak to four and puts Carthage over .500 for the first time this season at 7-6. The loss second Hamline to 6-10.

Ian Maxeiner recorded his first win of his career for the Red Men, as the Carthage bats battled back to dig out of the early 4-0 hole that Hamline put Carthage in. Maxeiner finished allowing four runs and striking out five in his five innings of work.

Carthage got on the scoreboard in the third with a pair of RBI singles to left by
Matt Rave and
Zach Wade to score
Nick Pierce and
Jared Knoespel respectively.

The Red Men followed that up in the top of the fifth with a four-run inning to take their first lead of the day which would never be relinquished.Â
Matt Rave led off the fifth with a solo homerun. Later in the inning an
Alex Letto sac fly tied the game at 4-4 as Wade scored. Carthage's final two runs came as the Red Men took advantage of a two-out error by the Pipers, as Pierce drove in
Ryan Kramer and
Drew Korosic doubled to score
Jordan Wiegold.

The Carthage bullpen took over from there, as
Kyle Damon and
Colin Dresen combined to work four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit to seal the victory.Â

A two-RBI double in the eighth and a Letto RBI single in the ninth rounded out the scoring for Carthage in the win.

Next for the Red Men, Carthage will reignite their rivalry with the Carroll University Pioneers in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener on Tuesday, March 28
th in Waukesha.
