BELOIT, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team traveled to Beloit College for a Saturday matinee.
Luke Seydel's hat trick propelled the Red Men in an 8-5 victory over the Buccaneers.
Andy Meyers, who took all but one faceoff for Carthage, won 12-of-16 from the circle. The Red Men outshot Beloit 39-26 in the contest.
Carthage improves to 3-1, 0-0 CCIW while Beloit falls to 1-1, 0-0 MLC.
The Red Men's victory gives them a 3-0 all-time record against Beloit.

Beloit opened the contest with a 5-0 advantage in shots before they registered a goal. A Carthage slashing penalty at the 9:26 mark of the opening frame put Beloit on the man-up, where they eventually converted. Nick Meisberger gave the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead on the extra-man with 8:55 left in the first quarter.
That ignited a Carthage offense that outshot Beloit 9-1 the remainder of the first quarter. Two of those shots, courtesy of

Andy Szun, found the back of the net to give the Red Men a 2-1 lead after the opening frame.
The Buccaneers responded with a pair of goals en route to a 3-2 lead with 10:12 left in the second quarter. This ignited a Red Men defense that forced four Beloit turnovers to close the second quarter. Carthage tied the game 3-3 with 0:58 left when
Ben Morgan fired a shot to the back of the net.
Luke Seydel notched a pair of goals to give Carthage the lead for good at 5-3 with 6:17 left in the third quarter. The Red Men and Buccaneers traded goals to close the third frame to make the score 6-4.
Krom and Seydel each led a 2-1 Carthage fourth quarter with a goal each to secure an 8-5 victory.

Ryan Smith tallied five saves in a complete-game victory.
Carthage will return to Art Keller Field for the first time in 2017 on Saturday, March 4 against University of Northwestern (MN). Opening faceoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
