JANESVILLE, Wis. – The Carthage College men's tennis team returned to competition on Sunday in Janesville, Wisconsin, as the Red Men swept the day's action with a win over Lake Forest College morning before topping to Edgewood College in the afternoon dual.
The pair of win sent the Red Men to 3-2 on the season, while Lake Forest dropped to 3-2 on the season and Edgewood went to 0-5.
In the opener, Carthage built a 3-0 lead following a sweep of the double competition.
Herman Abban and
Pawel Jaworski won the one doubles competition [8-4] over Dan Pivonka and Trevor Allen. In the two doubles,
Chris Conley and
Lukasz Jaworski downed Nick Zazove and Ellis Lora-Arceco [8-5] and
Matt Curry and
Brandon Stassen topped Nick Rehm and Dragan Trivanovic to closeout doubles [8-6].
Carthage did just enough to earn the win in the match as Herman and Pawel took the only two singles matches for the Red Men as they defeated Dan Pivonka [6-4, 6-0] and Trevor Allen [6-4, 6-2] in the one and two singles to give the Red Men the final points needed as Carthage won 5-4.
Carthage had less trouble in the second match of the day as the Red Men handed Edgewood their first of two losses on the day to keep them winless on the season.
As they did against Lake Forest, Carthage swept the doubles competition as Abban and P. Jaworski defeated Brian Davenport and Evan Stone [8-3], Conley and L. Jaworski topped Jaime Benavides and Andrew Martinez [8-6] and Curry and Stassen downed Sebastian Seeger and Brandon Glock [8-1].
Carthage then took the singles one through four matches to wrap up the victory over Edgewood 7-2. For Carthage, straight-set wins in the one through three by Abban, P. Jaworski and Conley and a win in the super breaker by L. Jaworski rounded out the day for the Red Men.
Carthage returns to the road again next weekend for a pair of matches in Holland, Michigan on February 18
th when the Red Men will face Hope College at 9:00 a.m. and Wabash College at 12:00 p.m. Both times listed are eastern standard time.
