#5 Red Men Move To 4-0 In MCVL With 3-1 Win Over Marian Friday

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Carthage College Red Men overcame a first set setback Friday on the road before defeating Marian University in four sets to remain undefeated in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League [18-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-18].
 
The win moves the #5 Red Men to 5-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference, while Marian falls to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the MCVL.
 
After hitting just .065 to Marian's .161 in the first set defeat, which saw the Red Men tally eight attack errors and four service errors, the Red Men bounced back to outhit the Marian in each of the final three sets to take the match.  Over the next three sets the Red Men had just 11 total attack errors as they hit .241 in set two, .259 in set three and .250 in set four, while Marian struggled hitting .160, .-031 and .148 respectively.
 
Carthage also flexed their muscle at the net totaling seven blocks led by Max Bongratz with five and Marc Hansen and Griffin Shields with two apiece. 
 
The Red Men also were on the receiving end of the 38 digs that libero Cody Bolan had a team-high 12.
 
On the offensive side, Jacob Allard had 27 assist in relief and Shields had 13 kills to lead Carthage.  Hansen added seven kills, Bongratz and Braeden Waumans each had six and Zach Lillig rounded out the leaders with five.
 
The Red Men will return to action a week from Friday to open a weekend home stand at Tarble Arena.  Carthage will face Greenville College at 7:00 p.m. on February 17th and Fontbonne University at 3:00 p.m. on the 18th.
