KENOSHA, Wis. – Carthage College dominated the Wheaton College at Koenitzer Aquatic Center on Saturday, as the Red Men took care of the Thunder, 202-92.
The win caps a perfect 6-0 season for the Red Men in dual meets with just the Wisconsin Private College Championships remaining before the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships, February 9
th-11
th.
Carthage opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay by
Sam Gabriel,
Chris Riordan,
James Weslaski and
Lee Hollman as they touched the wall less than two-tenths of a second ahead of Wheaton's top squad [1:35.53].
Carthage took first in nine individual events Saturday, with
Chris Russo and
Cooper Hawkins each turning in a pair of wins. Russo took first in the 100 free [47.72] and 200 free [1:45.77], while Hawkins won the 200 breaststroke [2:11.11] and 200 IM [1:57.65]. Additionally, Hawkins turned in another great swim in the 200 butterfly, with a second place finish [1:58.18].
Carthage went one-two in the 1000 freestyle, as
Nick Sall took first [10:19.56] and
Nathan Morris was second [10:25.01].
A trio of Red Men each tallied a first and second place finish Saturday in individual events.
Sam Gabriel took first in the 100 backstroke [52.44] and second in the 200 back [1:55.64],
Chris Riordan won the 100 breast [59.00] and was second in the 200 breast [2:11.97] and
Lee Hollman won the 50 free [21.71] and finished runner up in the 100 fly [53.25].
Aaron San Juan won the one-meter diving competition with a final score of 256.80 and
Mitch Scarski and
Nate Rodriguez each has second place finishes. Scarski in the 200 IM [1:59.45] and Rodriguez in the 500 free [5:56.41].
Wheaton edged out the team of Weslaski, Sall, Russo and
James Hasbrouck in the final event of the day to give Carthage a second place finish in the 400 free relay.
The Red Men will return for their final tune-up next weekend at Koenitzer for the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Saturday, January 28
th.
