Red Men Volleyball hosts MCVL Tournament at Tarble Arena this weekend

KENOSHA, Wis. – With the MCVL Tournament title on the line, The Carthage College men's volleyball team (25-1, 13-0 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League) will return to Tarble Arena for one last time this season to host the MCVL Tournament April 8 & 9. The Red Men, who earned the No. 3 ranking once again in the April 5 AVCA Men's Division III Top 15 Poll, won the MCVL Regular Season Title outright and earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the right to host.
 
Carthage will take on the No. 4 seed, the Dominican University Stars, at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 8. The first 750 Carthage students to attend the match between Carthage and Dominican on Friday will receive a free shirt. Prior to the match between the Stars and the Red Men, the No. 2 seed Raiders of MSOE and the No. 3 seed Muskies of Lakeland College will face off at 4 p.m. at Tarble Arena. The winner of each match will compete for the championship on Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m.

No. 1 Carthage College Red Men

The Red Men enter post-season play following a 3-1 win over Mount St. Joseph University on Friday, April 1 and a 3-0 sweep of Wittenberg University on Saturday, April 2 with both matches taking place at Tarble Arena.
 
The Red Men currently lead all of NCAA Division III and the MCVL in blocks per set with an average of 2.81 blocks/set. The Red Men also lead the nation and the conference in match win/loss percentage with a winning percentage of 0.962. J.P. Tulacka is ranked second in NCAA Division III and first in the MCVL for blocks per set with a 1.48 blocks/set average. Griffin Shields is close behind with a national ranking of No. 12 and an MCVL ranking of No. 4 with 1.04 blocks/set. Shields is also ranked fourth in NCAA Division III and first in the MCVL for points per set with a 4.80 points/set average. He is also ranked sixth nationally and first in the conference for his kills per set average of 3.81 kills/set. Matt Reinsel is ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division III and second in the MCVL for assists per set with an average of 10.23 assists/set.

The Raiders enter the MCVL Tournament with the No. 2 seed following a 3-1 win over Wittenberg on April 1 and a 3-2 win against Mount St. Joseph on April 2. Scotty Boyk leads the team in kills with a total of 241 kills and an average of 3.60 kills/set. Quin Krisik leads the Raiders in service aces in a total of 32 service aces. Neil Naughton leads the team in blocking with 56 total blocks and an average of 0.78 blocks/set. The Raiders are coached by Shane Reid. MSOE opens the MCVL Tournament with a match against the No. 3 seed Lakeland College at 4 p.m. on April 8.

The Muskies enter post-season play following a 3-0 sweep of No. 4 seed Dominican University on April 1 and a 3-1 win over Benedictine University on April 2. Matt Stolz leads the Muskies in kills with a total of 252 kills and an average of 3.50 kills/set. Casey Bolda leads the team in service aces with a total of 27 service aces and an average of 0.36 service aces/set. Tim Robbins leads the Muskies in blocking with 72 total blocks and an average of 0.90 blocks/set. The coach for the Muskies is Ryan Schopf. Lakeland will open tournament play against No. 2 seed MSOE at 4 p.m. on April 8.

The Stars return to play this weekend following a 0-3 loss to No. 3 seed Lakeland College on Friday, April 1 and a 3-1 win over Marian University on Saturday, April 2. Luke Spicer currently leads the team in kills with a total of 276 kills and an average of 3.17 kills/set. Mason Solbrig leads the Stars in blocks with a total of 73 bloks and a 0.86 blocks/set average. Solbrig also leads the team in service aces with an average of 0.38 service aces/set and a total of 32 service aces. The Stars are coached by Daniel Ames. Dominican will open the MCVL Tournament against the Carthage College Red Men at 7 p.m. on April 8.
