Red Men Volleyball looks to defend perfect MCVL record this weekend at Tarble Arena

KENOSHA, Wis. – With the MCVL regular season title and the opportunity to host the MCVL tournament on the line, the Carthage College men's volleyball (23-1, 11-0 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League) team will return to Tarble Arena to defend their perfect MCVL record. The Red Men, ranked No. 3 in the March 29 AVCA Men's Division III Top 15 Poll, will host Mount St. Joseph University on Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. and Wittenberg University at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2. The Red Men will hold their senior night on Saturday to honor seniors Will Craft, Scotty Adamczyk, and J.P. Tulacka.

Carthage enters this weekend's competition following a 3-0 sweep of MSOE on Thursday, March 24 to become the standalone leader in the MCVL. A win on Friday against Mount St. Joseph would earn the Red Men a share of the MCVL regular season title, the top seed in the MCVL tournament, and the right to host the MCVL tournament. Any combination of Carthage wins and MSOE losses that add up to two in favor of the Red Men will earn Carthage the outright MCVL regular season championship.
 
The Red Men currently lead NCAA Division III in match win-loss percentage at 0.958 and in blocks per set with an average of 2.81 blocks/set.  J.P. Tulacka is ranked second in NCAA Division III and first in the conference for blocks per set with an average of 1.44 blocks/set. Griffin Shields is ranked fourth in the nation for points per set and fifth in the nation for kills per set with averages of 4.89 points/set and 3.93 kills/set. Shields also leads the MCVL in both categories. Matt Reinsel is ranked tenth nationally and second in the MCVL for his 10.22 assists per set average.
 
As a team, the Red Men are averaging 12.02 kills/set, 11.15 assists/set, 2.81 blocks/set, 1.54 service aces/set, 9.68 digs/set, and sport a hitting percentage of .281. In comparison, opponents of Carthage have averaged 9.18 kills/set, 8.56 assists/set, 1.39 blocks/set, 0.68 service aces/set, 7.99 digs/set, and a collective hitting percentage of .089 in matches against the Red Men.

The Lions of Mount St. Joseph return to play this weekend following a 3-0 sweep of MCVL opponent Wittenberg University on Thursday, March 24. Alex Vohland currently leads the Lions in kills with a combined total of 301 kills and an average of 3.63 kills/set. Jake Neiheisel leads Mount St. Joseph in blocks with a total 95 and a 1.09 blocks/set average. As a team, the Lions are averaging 11.40 kills/set, 10.46 assists/set, 2.44 blocks/set, 1.62 service aces/set, 10.54 digs/set, and a hitting percentage of .231. The head coach of Mount St. Joseph is Ryan Lengerich.
 
Following their game against the Red Men on Friday, the Lions will take on MSOE on Saturday in Milwaukee, Wis.

The Tigers of Wittenberg University hit the court this weekend following a 3-0 loss to Mount St. Joseph on Thursday, March 24. Wittenberg will take on the Red Men following a game against MSOE on Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis. Dylan Kolovitz currently leads the Tigers in kills with 182 total kills and an average of 2.94 kills/set. Isaiah Brock leads the team in blocks with 56 total blocks and an average of 0.85 blocks/set. As a team, Wittenberg is averaging 10.98 kills/set, 10.05 assists/set, 1.80 blocks/set, 1.91 service aces/set, 10.40 digs/set, and hold a hitting percentage of .217. The Tigers are coached by Evan Amstutz.
