Red Men Volleyball travels to face two MCVL opponents this weekend

Carthage will face off against the Marian University Sabres and the Lakeland College Muskies

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College men's volleyball team (20-1, 8-0 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League) hit the road this weekend to take on the Sabres of Marian University on Friday and the Muskies of Lakeland College on Saturday. The Red Men retained the No. 3 ranking in the March 15th AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Poll. This is the sixth week in a row that the Red Men have receive the third spot in the ranking.

The Red Men return to the court this weekend following a 3-2 win over No. 15 New York University and a 3-0 sweep of No. 8 Stevenson University on Saturday, March 12th. Carthage is currently ranked first statistically in the nation for blocks per set with an average of 2.69 blocks/set. The Red Men also lead the nation in win/loss percentage with a win percentage of 0.952. Carthage leads the MCVL is currently ranked eighth in the nation and leads the MCVL in hitting percentage with a percentage of 0.289. J.P. Tulacka is ranked second in the nation and first in the MCVL in blocks per set with an average of 1.36 blocks/set. Griffin Shields is ranked third in the nation and first in the MCVL in points per set with an average of 4.85 points/set. Shields is also averaging 3.89 kills/set which ranks him fourth in the nation and second in the MCVL for kills per set. Matt Reinsel is currently ranked 10th in the nation and third in the MCVL in assists per set with a 10.12 assists/set average. On March 16th, Marc Hansen was named MCVL Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

The Sabres hit the court this weekend following a 3-2 loss to Fontbonne on Friday, March 11, a 3-0 loss to Greenville on Saturday, March 12, and a 3-1 loss to No. 8 Stevenson on Monday, March 14. Jon Smallpage currently leads the Sabres in kills with a total of 251 kills and an average of 3.75 kills/set. Smallpage also averages 0.36 service aces/set and has compiled 24 service aces on the season. In addition, Smallpage leads the Sabres in blocks with 66 total blocks and a average of 0.99 blocks/set. The Sabres are coached by Carthage alum, Tyler Frings. Frings played four years at Carthage from 2009-12 and is currently ranked first for total blocks in Carthage men's volleyball program history with 441 career total blocks.

The Muskies of Lakeland College return to play this weekend following a 3-0 win over Greenville on March 11, a 3-0 win over Fontbonne on March 12, and a 0-3 loss to No. 8 Stevenson on March 14. The Muskies will take on MSOE on March 18 at 7 p.m. Matt Stolz leads the Muskies in kills with 234 total kills and a average of 3.66 kills/set. Tim Robbins leads the team in blocks with 57 total blocks and an average of 0.83 blocks/set. Casey Bolda is the current leader in service aces with 25 total service aces and an average of 0.38 service aces/set. The Muskies are coached by Ryan Schopf.
