FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Carthage College men's volleyball team (21-1, 9-0 MCVL) made a quick road trip up to Fond du Lac, Wis. in Northeastern Wisconsin to take on the Sabres of Marian University (8-11, 5-5 MCVL). The Red Men earned the No. 3 ranking for the sixth week in a row in the March 15 AVCA Men's Division III Top 15 Poll.

Carthage struck first in the first set in thanks to a service error by the Sabers. The Red Men would not connect on the next point and would set up a point-for-point rally between the two teams to start the set. Leading 5-4, the Red made a three point run to extend their lead to 8-4. One point later, Carthage would make another run with
Tony Allen serving and score another four points to make the score 12-5. The Red Men were able to hold onto the lead for the rest of the set and took the first set 25-11.

The Red Men earned the first two points of the set, but the Sabres immediately struck back and tied the set 2-2. A few moments later the Red Men found themselves with an 8-4 lead. Carthage then made a a 10-6 run to extend their lead to 17-8. Although Carthage struggled a bit towards the end of the set, the Red Men were still able to pull out the 25-14 win and extend their lead to 2-0. Â

Carthage made an early 6-1 run to start the third set. A few moments later with
Griffin Shields back to serve the Red Men were able to extend their lead to 10-4 over the Sabres. Carthage easily dominated the set and won 25-17, securing a 3-0 sweep of the Sabres of Marian University (25-11, 25-14, 25-17).

As a team, the Red Men collected 12 kills, three service aces, 10.5 blocks, 35 assists, 36 digs, and hit .338.
Will Craft led Carthage in kills with 10, accompanied by
Zach Lillig and
Griffin Shields with eight apiece.
Zach Lillig made seven blocks, followed by
Scotty Adamczyk and Craft with four apiece. Craft also made two service aces and
Matt Reinsel connected on 32 assists. Adamczyk made seven digs followed by
Matt Reinsel with six, respectively.

The Red Men return to play on Saturday as they travel to Howards Grove, Wis. to take on the Muskies of Lakeland College.
