Red Men Volleyball sweeps Adrian to open MCVL play 1-0

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College men's volleyball team (8-1, 1-0 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League), ranked No. 6 in the February 2nd AVCA Coaches Top 15 Poll, opened conference play against the Bulldogs of Adrian College (0-5, 0-1 MCVL) at Tarble Arena on Friday, February 5th.

The Red Men opened the first set with a six-point run to take the lead 6-0. A few points later, Carthage would make an 11-point run with Scotty Adamczyk serving to take a 20-3 lead. The Red Men would take the first set 25-5.

The second and third sets showed more of the same as Carthage won each set 25-9, earning a 3-0 sweep of the Bulldogs.

Collectively, the Red Men recorded 30 kills, six service aces, five blocks, 22 assists, 26 digs and hit .453. Max Bongratz had a career-high in both kills and aces as he led the Red Men with 10 and four. Evan Walsh and Marc Hansen made seven and four kills each, respectively. Ryan Paull connected on three blocks along with Hansen and Bongratz with two each. Matt Reinsel recorded 16 kills and Scotty Adamczyk and Cody Bolan each earned six digs.

"It always feels good to start off conference-play with a good win, especially after a big win like last night.  Santa Cruz is always a tough opponent for us," said assistant coach Ryan Thompson.  "We knew today was going to be a completely different challenge, but our guys really stepped up and did a good job."

The Red Men return to Tarble Arena on Saturday, February 6th at 3 p.m. as they take on MCVL opponent Olivet College (1-3, 0-1 MCVL).
