GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Carthage College Lady Reds opened their lacrosse season in impressive fashion with a dominating 18-6 win over Hanover College at DePauw University's Reavis Stadium.

It's the third straight year that the Lady Reds have 1-0 following season opening wins.

Rachel Mussell and Kara Vana tied for a game-high four goals along with Hanover's Dalisha Rivera-Rodriguez, while Maddie Griffin, Shannon Long and Elizabeth Wittenborg with two each; and Marissa Vavra, Heather Martin, Megan McNamara and Kristen Hairston with one apiece.

The Lady Reds jumped out to an early lead as Vana scored just 18-seconds into game and extended the lead to 7-0 with 16:21 remaining in the half.  Following an exchange of goals the Lady Reds found themselves up 10-2 at the break.

Carthage continued to push the pace of the game, extending the lead to as many as 13 midway through the second half when Mussell scored her fourth of the game.

Starting goalkeeper Taylor Sopron made four saves in the win before being replaced by Maggie Allen with the game safely in control.
