KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College men's lacrosse team won their first game of the season to improve to 1-1 on the year with a convincing 10-3 victory over Beloit College Saturday at Art Keller Field.
Dylan Harris and
Tanner Thomas paced the way for the Red Men with a hat-trick apiece.
Billy Lane scored twice and
Jared Ferrell and
John Salerno each had one goal.
Beloit opened the scoring 8:24 into the game to give the Buccaneers the early 1-0 lead. The Red Men answered swiftly with three goals over a span of 3:20 to take a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.
Two goals in the opening five minutes of the second quarter allowed the Buccaneers to tie the game up at 3-3. Carthage later regained their two-goal advantage as Harris and Thomas each scored in to push the Red Men lead to 5-3.
The second half was dominated by the Red Men, as Carthage outscored Beloit 5-0 to put the Buccaneers away. Carthage had numerous opportunities to expand on the lead but the goalkeeping play of John Murphy for Beloit limited the Red Men to just 10 goals, while making 24 saves.
Jonah Lackey made four second half saves to shutout Beloit in the second half and finished with 12 saves on the day to earn his first win of the season.
The Red Men return to action at Art Keller Field next Saturday, March 5, to face Benedictine University at 1:00 PM.
