Red Men Volleyball travels to Hoboken, N.J. & New York, N.Y. this weekend

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Carthage College men's volleyball team (13-1, 6-0 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball Conference) will hit the east coast this weekend to play three matches in Hoboken, N.J. and New York, N.Y on Friday, February 26th and Saturday, February 27th. Carthage retained the No. 3 ranking for the third consecutive week in the AVCA Coaches Division III Men's Top 15 poll. The Red Men will face the No. 6 Stevens Institute of Technology at 3 p.m., EST on Friday and Medaille College at 5 p.m., EST. Both matches will take place at the Walker Gymnasium on the campus of the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. On Saturday, Carthage will take on Baruch College at 3 p.m., EST at the Arc Arena on Manhattan.

The Red Men enter this weekend's competition coming off of two 3-0 wins over MCVL opponents Loras College and North Central College. The Red Men have swept their last 10 opponents and have won 32 consecutive sets. Carthage currently leads all NCAA Division III teams in blocks per set with 2.82 blocks/set. Carthage also ranks third in Division III for match win-loss percentage with a percentage of 0.929. Zach Lillig is currently third in Division for blocks per set with 1.21 blocks/set. J.P. Tulacka is ranked sixth in the same category with 1.14 blocks/set. Griffin Shields is ranked fifth in Division III for points per set with 4.66 points/set and Matt Reinsel is ranked ninth in assists per set with 10.12 assists/set.

The Stevens Institute of Technology played three games this past week. The Ducks swept Rust College and York College (N.Y.) 3-0 on February 21st and swept New Jersey City University 3-0 on February 24th. Gabe Shankweiler currently leads the Ducks in kills averaging 3.09 kills pet set. Thomas Burrell leads Stevens in blocks with 1.15 blocks/set.

The Mavericks are coming off four wins as they enter the game against the Red Men. Medaille beat Keuka College 3-1 and SUNYIT  3-0 on February 13th, Wells College 3-1 on February 14th, and Hilbert College 3-0 on February 17th. Nate Schneider leads the Mavericks in kills with 3.16 kills/set. Pete McKelvey leads Medaille in blocks with 0.76 blocks/set and 29 total blocks.

The Bearcats will have two games prior to playing the Red Men on Saturday.
