GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Carthage College men's lacrosse squad started their 2016 campaign with a setback, dropping their season opener to Rhodes College, 10-8, at DePauw University on Sunday, February 21st.
Â
Luke Seydel led the Red Men with three goals on the afternoon, followed by
Jared Ferrell with two and
Ben Morgan,
Tanner Thomas and
Dylan Harris each with one.
Â
Scoring came at a premium during the first thirty minutes as the Red Men and Lynx were tied 1-1 after the first quarter and the Lynx took a narrow 3-2 lead heading into the break.Â
Â
Carthage opened the third on a 3-0 run over the first 2:01 of the quarter to take their first lead of the game at 4-3 before pushing it to 5-3. However the Red Men went cold the rest of the way in the third, while Rhodes regained the lead heading to the fourth following a 5-0 run and taking an 8-5 lead.
Â
The Red Men, led by Seydel with two goals in the fourth, attempted to mount a comeback, but the Lynx had an answer for each Carthage goal halting any chance to overtake them.
Â
The Red Men return to Kenosha for their home opener Saturday, February 27th as they play host to Beloit College at 1:00 PM at Art Keller Field.
