Final Results
CHICAGO – The Carthage College men's swimming team stayed perfect on the season after defeating the Illinois Institute of Technology and Illinois Wesleyan University in convincing fashion in Chicago on Saturday.
The Red Men topped IIT, 175-135, and defeated College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe, IWU, 228-72.
Carthage took first place in six events and finished as runner up in 12 as they dominated the pool.
Cooper Hawkins finished first in first in a pair of events, as the freshman won the 200-yard butterfly [2:01.51] and the 200 individual medley [2:00.14] finishing just ahead of teammate
Mitch Scarski who was second [2:00.54]. Hawkins also took second in the 200 breaststoke [2:13.14].
To go along with his second place finish in the 200 IM, Scarski took second 100 breast [1:01.65] and 200 back [1:58.44] behind
Sam Gabriel who took first [1:57.12]. Scarski was also on the Red Men's 200 medley relay team that opened the event with a second place finish along with
William Zocher,
Ryan Morales and Phil Vaccarello [1:41.96]. Gabriel also took second in the 100 backstroke [53.75].
Lee Hollman won the 100 back ahead of Gabriel [53.59] and touched the wall second in the 50 freestyle [22.11].
Chris Russo won the 200 free [1:45.81] and
Connor Pierson took the one-meter diving event [242.45] to round out the Red Men's first place finishes. Russo also finished second in the 500 free [4:59.38].
Nick Sall took a pair of second place individual finishes in the 1000 free [10:24.60] and 100 fly [55.24], while
Paul Devereux was second in the 100 free [49.35].
In the final event of the day, Devereux, Sall, Russo and Hollman used a strong combined swim to take second in the 200 free relay [1:27.71].
Carthage returns home to Koenitzer Aquatic Center next Saturday for a swimming-only dual meet against Carroll University at noon.
