NAPERVILLE, Ill. –Carthage College paired a strong attack with solid defense to earn a three set sweep of the North Central College Tuesday night as the Lady Reds downed the Cardinals, 3-0.
The win improves the Lady Reds to 16-11 on the season and keeps them in the hunt for the postseason at 3-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Cardinals drop to 13-13 on the year and remain winless in the CCIW at 0-6.
After struggling to hit in the first set at .189, the Lady Reds committed just three attack errors over the final two sets, hitting .357 and .371 respectively to allow Carthage to hit .284 to North Central's .023 as they cruised to 25-20, 25-9 and 25-13 wins.
Stephanie Korbakes and
Rachael Kisten led the Lady Reds with 10 kills each, while
Megan Behrendt hit a match-high .467 with seven kills on 15 attempts with no errors.
On the defensive side, Carthage owned the net with 10.5 blocks led by
Rachel Mickey with four.
Luci Krenzke turned in 13 digs to lead the Lady Reds.
The Lady Reds return home on a quick turnaround tomorrow for a match with North Park University at Tarble Arena. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
